Saints look to Brown, Wallace

Gavin Wallace

Spinners Bevon Brown and Gavin Wallace will attempt to put St Catherine Saints through to the second round of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) All-Island Limited-Overs Knockout when they play away to St Mary at Eden Park today.

The pair, who bowl off spin and leg spin, respectively, will seek to fill a gap created by the absence of five players, who are currently overseas representing Jamaica at the senior and junior levels.

They are captain Tamar Lambert, Odean Brown, Danza Hyatt, and Andre Russell, who are with the national team competing in the WICB Caribbean Twenty20 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago, and batsman Oraine Williams, who is with the national Under-19 team in Barbados.

"All five players who are away would have started. But I think we have reasonable replacements, who will allow us to compete effectively," said St Catherine Saints coach, Ephraim McLeod.

"It's knockout and we will be playing every game as a final," he added.

Expecting outstanding performances

The other players who McLeod will be looking to for outstanding performances are Junior Stewart, Shacoya Thomas and Damion Bryce.

In another top matchup, Senior Cup champions Kensington Dragons with Maurice Kepple, Horace Miller, Akeem Dewar and Dennis Bulli will seek another trophy this season when they travel to Jamaica Broilers to play Clarendon.

Clarendon, without ace bowler Krishmar Santokie, will look to former national Under-19 keeper Kirk Harris for a lift.

Elsewhere, Super League campaigners St Elizabeth and Westmoreland will do battle at Appleton Cricket Ground, Trelawny will entertain Trelawny at Elgin Town, St James will play St Ann at Jarrett Park, Kingston will travel to Kingston and St Andrew, G.C. Foster Police host Portland, and Lucas will face St Thomas.

Defending champions Melbourne and Manchester are not in action this weekend.
